Meet the latest generation of thermal sensor technology
There is a lot in the name Calumino. Cal comes from calorie, the unit of measurement for the energy associated with temperature increase. Lumino comes from luminosity: the unit of measurement for luminosity.
This combination typifies the company perfectly. Calumino is one of the first companies to combine powerful and affordable thermal imaging sensor technology with embedded Artificial Intelligence. This results in a revolutionary thermal imaging sensor, which also scores very high on privacy protection because the sensor has low resolution. Bart de Jong, commercial director of Calumino characterises the sensor succinctly.
A sensor with the sensitivity of military technology.
For the same cost as a good motion sensor
With edge analytics for detecting people, animals and temperatures
Calumino's sensors provide a much higher level of control and insight with no invasion of privacy in a variety of industries. Think smart building management, pest control, security, asset monitoring and elderly care.
The sensor sees heat instead of light. This allows people, animals and other 'hotspots' to be detected in all light conditions. At the same time, different types of danger, such as fire, leaks and other disturbances can also be monitored.
Meeting at 'The Things' conference
'The Things' conference is all about new ideas and innovation in the IOT industry. And about making good things come true. Both HBI, the initiator of Sqippa, and Calumino attended. They struck up a conversation and discovered promising common ground. And discussed interesting use cases.
Smart building management is one of the knowledge areas where Calumino is achieving progressive results. Nice examples include:
KPN Manufacturing Fieldlab in Eindhoven: this is where Calumino's new 'thermal imaging sensor' has been installed. It is an affordable and smart solution for building management. It poses no problems of privacy violation, which does pelt with normal sensors. And the sensors are much less complicated than radar solutions.
The winning innovation of the 'Siemens Sales Next Level IoT challenge': improving climate control in greenhouses in the agriculture sector.
The collaboration with Sqippa can only bring opportunities, says Bart de Jong. Sqippa is the IoT smart building platform. Sqippa collects data from devices and facilities in a building. This allows buildings to be managed smarter, i.e. more efficiently. This is where Calumino's sensors fit in perfectly.
Making a difference through innovation together with the Sqippa community
Calumino focuses on OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer Parts) integration. It makes sensors for specific brands and models. These are often big customers, big companies.
Companies big enough to have influence and want to innovate, but still 'lean' enough to make quick decisions. These types of companies in particular are interesting to bring innovative concepts to market together.
The Sqippa community consists of very different partners. Partners who focus on the end user and also so-called OEM partners. Bart sees this as a very strong point of the community.
"It is very interesting to combine the knowledge from OEM integration and end-users. By thinking from the use by and usefulness for the end customer, we can offer even better solutions. And that doesn't just apply to us. With this approach, all Sqippa partners can grow."
The future is pioneering together
Calumino is a true pioneer. And pioneering has led to an affordable thermal sensor with excellent performance. This strengthens Calumino's belief that Sqippa will and will continue to play a major role in the field of smart building management. Because Sqippa is also leading the way and continues to innovate.
The second reason Bart de Jong believes in Sqippa's future is the cooperation Sqippa puts first. Because collaboration is also Calumino's motto.
"Strong collaboration breeds innovation. Only through collaboration and, of course, blood, sweat and tears can we improve the future."
